Entry-Level Job Titles and Salary Information
College graduates with degrees in accounting are eligible for employment in the
Accounts Examiner I (10641) classification. New employees typically start at the minimum
salary listed and may receive annual raises until they reach the top of their pay
scale. Employees also earn additional raises by promotion to a higher job classification.
All new employees must successfully complete a probationary period in their new
job prior to being granted permanent status in the position.

The Merit System
Jobs in the State Classified Service are filled under a merit system which is based
on competitive selection, following the principle that positions are filled on an
equal opportunity basis. Permanent jobs with the State are filled by appointment
from eligible lists made up of people who have successfully passed an examination,
or have met the minimum requirements for a training and experience evaluation. Each
examination is based on the kinds of experience, training, and knowledge needed
for a particular job.
